The rarest of jaspers, Vistaite is an old stock mined out stone from a ridge above Walton Lake, in the Ochoco Mountains, Oregon.

The deposit has been extinct for decades. Recent reports of finds have been realised to be misidentified examples of nearby Skaggs or Ochoco Green Jasper rather then Vistaite.

Discovered and mined in the 60s by Oregon rock shop owners Hoot Elkins and Shirts Quant, our supplier sourced material from Hoot's daughter Judy Elkins. Judy closed up the shop in 2013.

Prized for its hardness and taking a beautiful polish, turquoise blue-green pieces were most popular and well-known as they resembled Persian turquoise whilst being much harder and durable. Vistaite colours can also include spectrums of brown, pastel pink, yellow, orange, lavender, white and red.
