Kornerupine Cat's eye is very rare gemstone known for it's chatoyancy or cat's eye effect, an optical effect where a narrow ray of light appears to run down the centre of the stone. This band of light moves side to side across the stone as the stone is moved in the light.
This example has a white-gold band of light running across it which is complimented perfectly by the greens of the stone.
This stone really is something else. It is rare to find these Kornerupine Cat's Eyes in Sri Lanka these days and they were rarely seen over 7ct's. This one is a whopping 29ct's and we don't think that such a stone has been seen before. We were fortunate enough to get this from a lovely man who was keeping it tucked away for a rainy day. In Sri Lanka all miners and stone sellers seem to have one massive unique or rare gem in their collection and this was his.

Cat's eyes from Sri Lanka are highly prized for the sharpness of their chatoyancy effect.
Kornerupine Cat's eye stones on occasion do naturally include fissures on the cut surface, and this stone has a rounded back surface.
