Iranian Turquoise, also known as Persian Turquoise, or Firoza locally, has been prized for thousands of years. Bluer turquoise is often used in architecture to cover the domes of palaces and mosques as the colour is seen as a symbol of heaven on earth.
The vast majority of turquoise for sale will have gone through a process of stabilisation, either by pressure filling the porous stone with a stabilising filler or by grinding down the turquoise into a powder and then mixed with epoxy to reconstitute it. These processes mean that otherwise unsuitable low grade turquoise can be used for jewellery. Colour enhances are also typically added in these processes.
Our turquoise is genuine old mined, unprocessed, natural stock. All turquoise will fade over time.
This lovely stone has been cut leaving some natural texture showing the composition and spider web intricacies of the turquoise in the stone. The sandy coloured contrasting colour highlighting the soft blue beautifully.
